my style
Natural. Lifestyle. Photojournalist. Modern. All of these could describe my style, but what I’m not is traditional. You will find so much more than the average photo of your family sitting on a bench, everyone saying “cheese” looking right into the camera. I like to mix it up and make your images memorable by capturing everyday moments that tell your story, the things you do that make you unique. When you see the images of your family enjoying each other, or the shot of you or your loved ones that was candid, you will be forever reminded of those amazing times. If you’re a couple in love, the creatively edited lifestyle images will make you blush and you will be so impressed with how fashionable you look! If you’re a savvy business person looking to update your image, you’ll fall in love with the editorial feel of your new images – that’s my niche.
what to expect on-location
I will take some “guided” shots right off to get everybody comfortable with the camera. Then for family sessions with little ones, you’ll run, play, jump, sing, laugh, and get dirty! I will do my best to capture the smiles that you know and see every day through natural moments. For family sessions with older children, the focus will be on family of course, but also photos of specific groups (siblings, your children with their significant other, you and your partner, etc). For couple sessions, you will still do some of the fun things listed above, just not as often or as extreme as the focus will be on capturing you as a couple. The location is completely up to you, whether it be urban, at the beach, a country field, a playground/park, etc. The location of your session is very important to creating beautiful, one of a kind images. I never use flash, and utilize only natural light to create naturally gorgeous images.
what to expect in your home
Because I am a natural light photographer, shooting in your home may not always be a possibility. It is essential that your home (or any indoor location you choose) have ample natural light so that those warm gorgeous images can be achieved. Please remember this little bit of info when you are deciding on your location. However, if you have GREAT light in your home, I say go for it! I will arrive a little early so I can get a feel for where I will be shooting. I’ll probably ask you where the best light is, and will probably move some furniture around. We’ll take some inside, some outside (if weather permits), and for young family shoots, you’ll run, play, laugh, and smile ’til your cheeks hurt! Having your home prepared is very important to creating stunning images – if you have laundry on the floor or pots on the counter, they could end up in your photos! For couple shoots, be prepared for all of that too, just on a more low key level. Shooting at your home is all about being in your element, and I love to capture the real life that goes on inside it! So think talks over coffee, cooking up your favourite meal, boardgames and more.
what to wear
I will be happy to consult with you prior to your session on clothing choices, and I recommend having more than one change of clothing. You should dress your kids in stylish, casual, colourful clothing.
DO: Wear LOTS of colour, lots of layers, and get as funky as you can!
DON’T: Dress in formal clothing, white shirts, or khakis. If you’d like portraits that reflect a more traditional style, then I am probably not the photographer for you.
